Have you noticed one of the hardest things to lose as we age is stubborn belly fat? Why is that?
As we age our bodies begin to store fat more easily due to decrease in hormones and metabolism. For most women it appears around the midsection, buttocks hips and thighs. - Keep your metabolism in fat burning mode
If our metabolism decreases as we age how can we change it from fat storing mode to fat burning mode? -500 calories per meal for women, 600 for men
-45 carbohydrates or less per meal
Snacks between100-200 calories per snack for women, 100-300 for men.

- Stay active
By adding in or increasing activity you will increase your likelihood of keeping that belly fat at bay. Walking, yoga, and strength training have been at the forefront of activity for men and women over the age of 40 in recent years. This is because these activities are gentile on the body and joints compared to other forms of exercise and will create lean lines. I often recommend chair exercise for those who need a more gentler routine to start with. Injuries are the most common reason people stop exercising. Stretch before and after activity on a daily basis to avoid injury.
- Check your daily diet for gaps
If you have stubborn belly fat, exercise and eat on a regular basis, no skipping meals, evaluate your diet. Not all calories are created equally. A 100 calorie piece of candy will not provide your body the same nourishment as a 100 calorie piece of fruit. Eating foods with flour, gluten, starch and wheat can cause abdominal distress. Journal your food. When you notice something does not agree with you make a note of it. If your diet consists mainly of processed food high in sodium, white flour and sugar you may have more difficulty busting that belly fat. Evaluate your food intake and add in more fresh fruit and vegetables, increase water intake and increase your protein if you are eating less than 15 grams per meal. High protein and fiber, low fat, low sugar and low sodium equals success.
