Eating well can be fun and delicious! I call this creation my "ice cream sundae."
Greek yogurt is the base for this fabulous concoction.
I have learned how to make delicious swaps over the years that leave me feeling satisfied without any cravings for the original. In a world filled with temptation, you can have your cake and eat it too! And why not?! I LOVE my desserts!
I learned how to bake from my grandparents before I was ten. Desserts have always been a comfort to me, but it became apparent that things needed to change over the years. When I was younger, it brought a sense of togetherness and happiness to be making something so good with the ones I loved.
As I got older, I began to use that feeling to get through emotional hardships.
There were months on end where I would sit down with a beautiful bowl of delicious chocolate ice cream. Two generous scoops flanked on each side by half a banana with a gorgeous drizzle of chocolate syrup. Oh my, it was fabulous, BUT the sugar overload and fat content were doing things to my body that weren't healthy. I was eating this each night during painful moments in my life. The sugar was giving me the feeling of euphoria I needed to get through my nights. But, it was also contributing to a significant weight and mood issue. Learning my triggers supported my understanding of why I felt the need to feed my sadness.
After healing these issues, I was able to recreate my earlier feelings of baking in the kitchen with my grandparents; comfort, happiness, and fun. Delectable, sweet food can be healthy and nutritious. So I decided to make the food I loved and have it love me in return. You can too!
Making swaps should satisfy your hunger. If it doesn't, you'll find yourself overindulging or raiding the fridge at midnight as I did. When your swaps aren't making the cut, it's time to reevaluate what you're swapping out. Is it close to the flavor or the crunch you crave? Is it sweet enough, salty enough?
You can have the same level of satisfaction from a more nutritious swap that will benefit your well-being without losing any of its appeal.
Try my sundae swap to satisfy your sweet tooth!
Start with 1/3 cup plain greek yogurt of your choice
Slice 3-4 strawberries and place them on the yogurt
Top with:
1 Tablespoon Safe + Fair Birthday Cake Granola
One three-inch Gluten-Free Brownie
A drizzle of raw honey
The calorie count will depend on which brands you choose and the type of yogurt you use.
I recommend the Safe + Fair brand for popcorn and granola. It is a plant-based, clean-label food and is free from 9 significant allergens. You'll get 20% off your first purchase too.
For the brownies, hands down, Epicure. It is my favorite go-to brand for gluten-free, low sodium, low sugar, low carb, low-calorie products in a pinch that tastes amazing! I love supporting women in small businesses. So if you do too, give their food a try. You'll be glad you did!
