At the end of August, my two youngest children and I came down with Covid. It was not unexpected, especially since school had begun ten days prior, and children in their classrooms were heading home each day with the virus. I wrote about it on social media and kept everyone updated on how we were combating the virus using my knowledge of viruses and the latest Covid protocols. As a result, several people called and connected with me to get some advice which prompted me to create this blog post.
When reading, remember every "body" is different. Use these recommendations as guidelines and listen to your body. Then, let's get to it!
The best way to fight off any illness is to stay active, hydrate, and cut out excess sugar along with processed food. Sugar feeds viruses and colds. Processed foods have little to no nutritional value. To cut back on your days in bed, eat raw fruits and vegetables, lean protein, plant-based is best, stay as active as possible, and seriously cut out or back on the sugar.
Rest when needed. When you feel a little weak, sit down or take a nap. During this time of rest, catch up on some reading or watch a feel-good movie.
For congestion, essential oils can help open your sinuses and clear your passageways.
Here is a mixture that our family has found to be extremely useful for colds and viruses.
Place two drops each into the palm of your hand: rosemary oil, white spruce oil, eucalyptus oil. Then place one teaspoon of unscented carrier oil into your palm with the other oils, rub your hands together then apply to the chest and back. My son slept very well after I used this on him.
If no one is around to apply it for you, apply it to the chest for personal use.
Avoid eucalyptus oil for children under the age of three and those with asthma. It can create the opposite effect and create breathing issues. If you suspect this is happening when using it, immediately wash it off and stop using it.
Fever. If you or your family member has a fever, apply oregano oil to the bottoms of the feet and put on a pair of socks. The socks prevent rugs and sheets from picking up the scent. Oregano oil is detoxifying and draws out fevers. Why the feet? The most prominent pores on your body are on the bottom of your feet. Therefore placing the oils on the bottoms of your feet helps the oil penetrate faster and break down the fever.
Covid Protocol.
Besides all the above, here are other things that many doctors and health professionals are suggesting you do if you test positive for the Covid virus.
Daily:
500 mg Vitamin C
2000 IUD's vitamin D
50 mg Zinc
Blueberry smoothies. One cup blueberries, 1 cup water, or non-dairy milk like almond, coconut, or oat milk. Dairy should be avoided to decrease mucus production: blend and drink.
Avoid cold foods. Some doctors don’t explain this one. Avoid cold food to give your digestive system a break. Your digestive system heats cold foods to process them through your body. If you are having intestinal issues, this will create more stress on your digestive system. In turn, it creates more pain, indigestion, and nausea. Try to eat as many warm foods and low sodium soups as you can—room temperature water too. The smoothies are the exception since they are loaded with antioxidants and soothing to your stomach.
Stay hydrated. You can quickly become dehydrated when you are not feeling well. Dehydration, in turn, will spike fevers, make you lethargic, and possibly bedridden. Drink as much herbal decaffeinated tea, water, and fresh-pressed juice as possible. Caffeine is dehydrating, so avoid beverages that have caffeine in them.
Movement is important. Move several times a day to prevent blood clots which have become common with Covid. Get up and walk every 10-20 minutes when possible. You can also take two baby aspirin, one in the morning and one in the evening if you have a pre-existing condition.
Sleep on your stomach if you are congested. Laying on your back and sides will put pressure on your chest. Sleeping on your stomach will alleviate the pressure, and it will give your lungs the room they need to breathe.
Other holistic helpers you can include are elderberry syrup and colloidal silver.
Daily juicing is amazing for your immune system.
This recipe is one of my go-to's!
eight celery stalks
one large or English cucumber
one cup packed spinach
one green apple
half of a lemon
one half tablespoon fresh ginger root
This juice is a cleansing elixir that will penetrate and help heal your cells. Drink this every morning on an empty stomach and wait 20 minutes before eating. You can also use it as a meal replacement when drinking 24-36 ounces. It takes 15 minutes for the nutrients in fresh cold-pressed juice to reach your blood cells compared to over 4 to 6 hours when eating your fruit and vegetables.
My children and I recovered within days of our symptoms following these guidelines. Our saving grace was getting ahead of the virus with a daily lifestyle and wellness protocol that included staying active and good nutrition.
